The National Business Group on Health (NBGH) represents the employer perspective on matters related to health care reform and is working to foster a safe, transparent, evidence-based health care delivery system. NBGH’s more than 300 members include 64 of the Fortune 100 companies. Through their participation in NBGH, they are helping lead a national dialogue on needed changes within the health care system.
NBGH frequently reaches out to policymakers as part of an effort to highlight how many of the problems in the current health care system affect employer-sponsored programs. To that end, NBGH has taken a leadership role in a number of initiatives aimed at elevating the discussion around system-wide change and demonstrating the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing health care change. These include Institutes on Health Care Costs and Solutions; Health, Productivity, and Human Capital; and Costs and Health Effects of Obesity. They also include National Committees on Evidence-Based Benefit Design and Consumer-Directed Health Care and Consumerism and the Center on Prevention and Health Services.
“The National Priorities Partners bring together key stakeholders who are committed to effecting real change in the U.S. health care system, including improving its safety, quality, and efficiency,” said Helen Darling, NBGH President. “By working together, we vastly increase the likelihood of achieving unprecedented improvement in health care. “
In addition to its numerous initiatives, NBGH also sponsors several awards aimed at raising awareness around promising actions in the health care field and rewarding good work. The awards include the National Health System Patient Safety Leadership Award, the Award for Excellence and Innovation in Value Purchasing, and awards for Best Employers in Healthy Lifestyles and Behavioral Health.
