Pacific Business Group on Health | |
The Pacific Business Group on Health (PBGH) is a California-based coalition of large businesses and public purchasers working to improve the quality of healthcare while keeping costs low. PBGH is a steadfast voice in the national dialogue around healthcare reform.
PBGH identifies healthcare and business trends, assesses the impact of those trends, and recommends practical steps as a means of advancing its agenda to catalyze quality improvement and value. PBGH serves a wide range of organizations, from consumers to purchasers, to promote value-based purchasing.
“We’re in a vital window of opportunity to advance real healthcare change,” said Peter V. Lee, PBGH’s Executive Director of National Health Policy. “PBGH and its members are excited to engage with key players and make substantive headway in strengthening this nation’s struggling healthcare system.”
PBGH works within four key program areas – value-based purchasing, quality measurement and improvement, consumer engagement, and policy. Through these central focus areas, PBGH administers a wide array of activities critical to its mission. For example, PBGH supports members in implementing breakthrough strategies that encourage innovation and competition among health plans and providers. PBGH plays a role in public reporting of health plan, medical group, and hospital performance in California; and PBGH is continuously advocating for evidence-based medicine and cost-effectiveness as core elements for health reform.

PBGH is continually working to increase consumer engagement in healthcare. For example, PBGH works with the National Quality Forum and the National Committee for Quality Assurance to identify additional metrics for public reporting. PBGH also supports the Office of the Patient Advocate in its efforts to educate the public on health plans. Learn more about PBGH’s consumer engagement efforts.
