For more than 100 years, the American Nurses Association (ANA) has served as an advocate for nurses nationwide. ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards and improved working conditions for nurses, all of which lead to a higher quality of care for patients.
Because nurses are the healthcare practitioners with the most direct patient contact, ANA realizes the importance of educating and advocating for registered nurses (RNs) to ensure the best quality in care.
“Nurses understand first-hand what it takes to provide patients with quality care,” said Linda J. Stierle, ANA’s CEO. “We also understand that any meaningful change needs to include everyone – from insurers to employers, doctors and nurses, to consumers. The National Priorities Partnership is based on that sense of collaboration, and that’s why it’s the most viable movement for change to date.”
As part of the organization’s larger patient safety and nursing quality initiative, ANA has participated as a founding member of the Pinnacle and Eisenberg award-winning National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention, in which national organizations collaborate and cooperate to address the interdisciplinary causes of errors and to promote the safe use of medications. ANA also supports the Institute for Healthcare Reform’s “5 Million Lives Campaign,” which promotes the adoption of improvements in care that can save lives and reduce patient injuries.
