PQA, Inc. brings together stakeholders to agree on a strategy for measuring performance at the pharmacy and pharmacist-level and publicly reporting the results. PQA works to make this information available so that consumers, pharmacists, and others can make informed choices. PQA has nearly 60 members, including AARP, AHIP, CMS, the American College of Nurse Practitioners, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, Eli Lilly, and the National Community Pharmacists Association.
PQA is structured around four workgroups, each of which plays an important role in carrying out PQA’s mission. The Quality Metrics Workgroup identifies areas where pharmacy-specific measures are needed, and works as appropriate with organizations possessing demonstrated experience in measure design to fill these gaps. The Data Aggregation & Reporting Workgroup recommends methods for disseminating meaningful data to pharmacists, consumers, and other key stakeholders.
Recognizing the importance measurement and public reporting can have on reform efforts, the Communications & Education Workgroup develops educational programming for pharmacists that illustrate the importance of quality measurement and improvement. The Research Coordinating Council works to identify and oversee the execution of demo projects. “PQA is pleased to join the National Priorities Partnership – our experience in collaborating with diverse stakeholders to improve performance at the pharmacy-level allows us to bring a fresh perspective to the table,” said Laura Cranston, PQA’s Executive Director. “The importance of collectively agreeing on National Priorities and Goals, and working together to advance real change, cannot be understated.” For more information on PQA, please visit www.pqaalliance.org.
